I love the opera! Years ago, I used to go to the opera quite often because a friend of mine worked at the opera, and she would give me free tickets for the dress rehearsals [IT=prove in costume].
But those days are over, so I cannot go to the opera very often anymore.
A month ago, something extraordinary happened: the opera came to me!!
You see, the Rome Opera House launched a project called OperaCamion. They transformed a lorry – or truck – into a stage [IT=palcoscenico], complete with lights, costumes, scenery, professional singers and a live orchestra of young musicians.
This opera company on a truck toured different neighbourhoods on the outskirts of the city [=neighbourhoods far away from the city centre]. In our neighbourhood, Bravetta, the truck parked in a large parking lot, and the members of the audience [=people who came to see the opera] brought their own chairs.
The performance, based on The Barber of Seville by Rossini, was free of charge. It was very well done! You can watch the video below to get an idea.
I must say, I had a ball [=I enjoyed myself a lot].
Incidentally [=by the way], opera started as a popular form of art, so it is only right that it should return to its popular roots.
See you soon!
